Dear PEI Member: Elections for PEI board members in even-numbered membership districts and the Affiliate division closed July 16. This year’s elections included the most candidates in years. In addition, member companies cast 18.5% more votes than in the 2019 election. Winners have been determined in four districts. The top two vote-getters in District 2, District 10 and the Affiliate division move into runoff elections, beginning Tuesday, July 28. The Kemp Scholarships recognize deserving students who are dependents of full-time employees of PEI member companies in manufacturer, distributor, service and construction or affiliate divisions. The scholarships are named in honor and memory of Charles D. Kemp, longtime president of the White Tucker Co. and 1972 PEI president. NOTED “CNBC auto reporter Michael Wayland reported GM won’t pursue a fuel cell-powered car any longer. Wayland tweeted the news Thursday during a conference call with the automaker’s chief sustainability officer, Dane Parker. According to Parker, GM plans to focus on electric cars for retail customers and fuel cell powertrains for commercial and military applications.” — Voice of the Highway, July 16 “New York’s Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced an extensive investment program for e-mobility. The ‘EV Make Ready’ initiative includes the construction of 50,000 AC and 1,500 DC charging stations in the US state by 2025.
