PEI Board of Directors elections have been completed for the odd-numbered districts and the Service & Construction division. Here are the election results, as certified by Steve Trabilsy, Stenstrom Petroleum Services Group, Rockford, Illinois, chairman of the PEI Election Commission.

Distributor District 1: The new director is James Ether, R.M. Dalrymple Co., Saratoga Springs, New York. Ether succeeds Tom Dion, Wildco-PES, Bloomfield, Connecticut.

Distributor District 3: The new director is Kevin Cormier, K.C. Petroleum Inc., Jacksonville, Florida. Cormier succeeds BJ Benton, United Pump and Controls Inc., Suwanee, Georgia.

Distributor District 5: The new director is Mainor Reyes, Reyes Rep Gas, Guatemala City, Guatemala. Reyes succeeds Eric Scott, The Southern Co., Memphis, Tennessee.

Distributor District 7: The new director is Brian Travis, Eaton Sales & Service, Denver, Colorado. Travis succeeds Mike Bakken, Valley Petroleum Equipment Inc., Grand Forks, North Dakota. 

Distributor District 9: The new director is Derek Rethmeier, Western Pump Inc., San Diego, California. He succeeds Ryan Rethmeier, Western Pump Inc., San Diego, California.

Manufacturer District 11: The new director is Kirby Corkill, Jarvis Lighting, Elk Grove Village, Illinois. Corkill succeeds Tony White, Southern Tank and Manufacturing Inc., Owensboro, Kentucky.

Manufacturer District 13: The new director is Dave Duncan, IRPCO, Charleston, West Virginia. Duncan succeeds Brad Hoffman, Tanknology Inc., Austin, Texas.

Service & Construction Division: The new director is Ryan Harrigan, Compliance Testing and Technology Inc., Saukville, Wisconsin. He succeeds Ben Stallings, Fatboy Electric Inc., Kansas City, Missouri.

PEI thanks all of this year’s candidates for their commitment to the association. The new directors will be installed Oct. 3 at PEI’s annual membership meeting during the 2019 PEI Convention in Atlanta.

PEI REVISES RP500
A revised edition of PEI’s Recommended Practices for Inspection and Maintenance of Motor Fuel Dispensing Equipment (PEI/RP500-19) is available for purchase. RP500 provides preventive and incident-response procedures to guard against dispenser equipment failure, reduce fire hazards, promote safety and minimize environmental problems.

The new edition of the document:

• Clarifies the relationship of Class A, B and C Operators to Level I and Level II Qualified Persons and Qualified Technicians.
• Addresses electronic storage of dispenser inspection, maintenance and repair records.
• Revises the section on training documentation to conform with federal requirements.
• Adds a section for identifying skimmers, unauthorized card readers and other unauthorized devices during daily inspections.
• Updates maintenance checklists in Appendix B to include inspections for skimmers, unauthorized card readers or other unauthorized devices.
• Incorporates the decommissioning of Stage II vapor recovery equipment.
• Updates all MSDS (material safety data sheet) references to SDS (safety data sheet).
• Includes additional references in the Publication Reference Appendix.
• Is reformatted to match PEI’s current recommended practice publication style.

To produce RP500-19, the PEI Fuel Dispensing Inspection and Maintenance Committee reviewed and acted upon helpful public comments submitted by owners, operators, contractors, regulators and other stakeholders. PEI thanks the members of the committee for a job well done:

EPA PROPOSES RENEWABLE FUEL VOLUMES
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed volume requirements for cellulosic biofuel, advanced biofuel and total renewable fuel for 2020, as well as biomass-based diesel volume standards for 2021. The proposed rulemaking increases the overall 2020 renewable fuel volume from 19.92 billion gallons to 20.04 billion gallons but maintains the conventional corn-based ethanol requirement at 15 billion gallons. The proposal sets the 2021 biomass-based diesel level at 2.43 billion gallons.

The EPA will hold a July 31 public hearing on the proposal in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Details can be found here.

NACS RELEASES DISASTER PLANNING TOOL
NACS released a resource to help convenience retailers develop or enhance their disaster planning procedures. The NACS Convenience Store Emergency Planning and Job Aids, produced under a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s National Infrastructure Protection Program Challenge, is designed to help convenience stores better prepare for and recover from man-made and natural disasters.

Continental ContiTech’s Norfolk, Nebraska hose plant is celebrating its 40th anniversary. The facility produces more than 70 million feet of hose annually and has produced more than 2.5 billion feet of hose since 1979.
Dover Fueling Solutions announced a strategic partnership with Microsoft to bring new cloud and IoT (internet of things) solutions to market. The company also reached an agreement with ABB to introduce electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions in Europe.
LSI Industries Inc. appointed Sean Hamilton director of commercial marketing. In addition to leading the overall commercial marketing strategy for LSI, Hamilton will guide development of the company’s marketing communication tools and tactics.
Matrix Capital Markets Group Inc. advised Fastrac Markets LLC on the sale of 54 convenience and fueling locations in New York to EG America LLC, a subsidiary of Blackburn, U.K.-based EG Group Ltd. The transaction included Fastrac's wholesale fuel and transportation businesses.
Western Global named Mike Nelson national accounts manager for infrastructure in its Fuel Solutions Group of the Americas. Nelson will provide product direction in the U.S. and Canada, and support the company’s activities in Central and South America.

“Growth Energy, the Renewable Fuels Association and the U.S. Grains Council sent joint comments to Ontario’s Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks July 8 regarding its proposed plan and schedule for implementing E15. The comments encourage higher blends of ethanol and offer technical expertise on implementing E15. In late 2018, the Ontario government released a proposal indicating the province could require E15 as soon as 2025.” — Ethanol Producer, July 16, 2019
The California Water Resources Control Board released guidance on the requirements and responsibilities of designated underground storage operators (DOs) under the state’s UST regulations. The guidance document can be downloaded here.
Canada will invest $4.6 million CAD in Petro-Canada, a division of Suncor Energy, to build a coast-to-coast network of 92 EV fast charging stations. The investment is part of Canada’s $182.5 million CAD Electric Vehicle and Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Deployment Initiative.

DEATHS
Robert E. "Bob" Shaw, 73, died Sept. 15, 2018, after a battle with cancer. Shaw worked with several PEI member companies before founding his own manufacturer’s representative agency, Bob Shaw Associates.
