Dear PEI Member: PEI has opened a 60-day comment period on the draft of a new recommended practice. The 32-page document, PEI/RP1700: Recommended Practices for the Closure of Underground Storage Tanks and Shop-Fabricated Aboveground Storage Tanks, is designed to promote safe and environmentally friendly practices and procedures for the decommissioning, removal, closure in place, storage, transportation and off-site disposal of USTs and ASTs that have contained petroleum products. Individuals interested in commenting may download a copy of the draft and submit comments at www.pei.org/RP1700. To be considered by the PEI Tank Removal and Decommissioning Committee, comments must be submitted online by Friday, June 15. The committee will review comments this summer, with publication of the document in the fall. As with all PEI recommended practices, input from members, regulators and other stakeholders ensures the most accurate document possible. If you are aware of others outside our normal distribution channels who might have helpful feedback, please share the link above and encourage them to comment.
