One important point we want

The new storefront requires you to log in before you begin any

HOUSE BILL WOULD
ELIMINATE CORN ETHANOL MANDATE
Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) introduced a
bill in Congress February 4 which would cap the amount of ethanol allowed in
gasoline at 10 percent and eliminate the renewable fuel standard’s (RFS’s)
corn ethanol mandate. The RFS, strengthened in a 2007 energy law, requires
15 billion gallons of conventional corn ethanol and 21 billion gallons of
advanced ethanol in the nation’s motor fuel supply by 2022. Goodlatte’s
bill, the RFS Reform Act of 2015, would remove the conventional ethanol
blending requirement from the RFS, leaving only the requirement for
petroleum refiners to blend advanced biofuels, such as biomass-based diesel
and cellulosic ethanol, into the fuel supply.
BRIEFLY NOTED
The Kroger Co. will take delivery of 40 heavy-duty liquefied natural gas
(LNG) trucks over the next several months. The trucks will service a group
of the company’s Fred Meyer Stores in Oregon and southwest Washington. The
trucks will be refueled from a private LNG fueling station at Fred Meyer’s
Clackamas (Oregon) Distribution Center. Kroger has not made definite plans
to expand LNG in other locations to fuel its delivery fleet of over 1,500
company-owned tractors.
A bill (SB 0158) was introduced in the Rhode Island Senate February 5
that would provide a 30 percent tax credit of the cost of equipment and
installation of alternative fuel dispensing and storage equipment. The bill
includes E85, compressed natural gas, LNG, propane, hydrogen and
electricity. The bill was referred to the Senate Finance Committee.
“Retail margins exploded 3.5¢ higher in 2014 thanks to a stellar
fourth quarter. This, combined with growing gasoline demand and a slight
drop in card fees, allowed for the greatest year on record for the gasoline
retailing industry. Margin revenue surpassed $25 billion. Retailers were
able to achieve an all-time record high of 17.9¢ per gallon on average in
2014 for regular grade. The all-grades pooled average also set a record high
at 18.6¢ per gallon.”—Lundberg Letter, January 5, 2015.
