Dear PEI Member:

Kevin McKinney, president of McKinney Petroleum Equipment, Mobile, Alabama, became the 65th president of the Petroleum Equipment Institute on January 1. He succeeds Phil Farrell, president of Double Check Company, Inc., headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, in that post. Steve Trabilsy, president of Accurate Tank Technologies, North Aurora, Illinois, is PEI’s vice president for 2015.

One of McKinney’s first duties was to appoint committees for 2015. In all, 181 people were named to serve on 24 PEI committees, with 29 individuals appointed to a committee for the first time. PEI is fortunate to have members who are willing to give their time to improve the association and the industry it serves. I can’t say this association is unique in that regard—there are other associations with active volunteer members—but PEI is fortunate to have so many members who are obviously talented and dedicated to the task at hand when they meet as a committee or board. On behalf of your Tulsa-based staff, thank you.

You can find the complete list of all committees and committee members here.

PEI’S DEF (DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID) RECOMMENDED PRACTICE TO BE REVISED
The PEI DEF Committee is soliciting comments to revise PEI’s Recommended Practices for the Storage and Dispensing of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (PEI/RP1100-10).

The 2010 version of these recommended practices applies to the storage, handling, and dispensing of DEF at motor fuel dispensing facilities, repair/maintenance garages and service centers. The document is limited to storage containers that use a pump and/or meter to dispense DEF.

If you have suggestions or recommendations for improving PEI/RP1100-10, submit them online at www.pei.org/rp1100. Instructions for completing the form are provided on the website.

TOPICS FOR FUTURE RECOMMENDED PRACTICES REQUESTED
PEI is seeking to identify topics that might provide subject matter for future recommended practices. Ideas submitted for recommended practices should meet all of the following criteria:

·         The subject matter involves practices and/or procedures used in the fuel and fuel handling equipment industry and serves the greater good of the industry;

·         The topic has not been adequately covered in documents produced by another organization; and

·         The expertise exists among PEI members to write the document.

If there is a topic you believe PEI should consider developing as a recommended practice, we would like to hear from you. If you have submitted a topic that was not selected in the past, you must resubmit. Email Bob Young byoung@pei.org with your suggestions by January 28. Please include the purpose and scope of the proposed document, along with the intended audience. BRIEFLY NOTED
Global Partners
has completed the acquisition of Warren Equities. The acquired properties are located throughout the Northeast and mid-Atlantic regions of the U.S. The acquisition includes 147 company-operated Xtra Mart convenience stores, 53 commission agent locations and fuel supply contracts for approximately 320 dealers. Global now has nearly 1,500 locations, primarily in the Northeast.
Beginning March 1, gasoline dispensing stations in San Francisco and Berkley, California, will be required to put climate change warning labels on all gasoline dispensing nozzles. The labels must say: “The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has determined that a typical passenger vehicle burning one gallon of fuel produces on average almost 20 pounds of tailpipe carbon dioxide (CO2), which the EPA has determined is the primary greenhouse gas that is contributing to recent climate change. This is a message from the city and county of San Francisco.” Stations that don’t comply with the law risk fines of $100 to $500.
