Dear PEI Member:
The tabulation of ballots has been completed in the nominating election of
PEI board members from our even-numbered districts and affiliate division.
One member ran unopposed and has already been certified as a winner by the
PEI Election Commission. Five members received enough votes in the
nominating stage of the election process to be elected to the board without
having to participate in a runoff election. A runoff election will be held
to elect a director from Distributor District 4. Ballots for the runoff
election will be mailed July 20. Here are the election results, according to
Blair Shwedo, Southeastern Petroleum Systems, Inc., Charlotte, North
Carolina, chairman of the PEI Election Commission.Distributor District 2
- The new director representing District 2 is J. J. (Jody) Porter, E.
O. Habhegger Company, Inc., Yeadon, Pennsylvania. He will succeed Scott
Hafer, Hafer Petroleum Equipment Ltd., Reading, Pennsylvania. District 2
covers DE, MD, PA, VA, WV, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Malta,
Poland, Portugal, Spain and Hungary.
Distributor District 4 - The nominees in the runoff election are
Jeffrey D. Badgley, Reliable Oil Equipment, Inc., Dayton, Ohio, and
William C. Morgan, Collins Equipment Corp., Cleveland, Ohio. The winner
will represent distributors in IN, KY, MI, OH, Egypt, Israel, Kenya, Oman,
Ontario, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sudan, Turkey and United Arab
Emirates.
Distributor District 6 - The new director representing District 6 is
Robert J. Stenstrom, Stenstrom Petroleum Service Group, Rockford,
Illinois. He will succeed Susan Gozdowski, Ampsco, Forest View,
Illinois. Distributor District 6 is composed of distributors from IL, IA, MO
and WI.
Distributor District 8 - John Keller, Petroleum Solutions, Inc.,
San Antonio, Texas, has been elected to represent District 8 on the PEI
Board of Directors. He will succeed Mark Cowie, White-Tucker Company,
Houston, Texas. Keller will represent distributors in KS, NM, OK, TX and
Mexico.
Manufacturer District 10 - Al Eichorn, PMP Corporation, Avon,
Connecticut, has been elected to represent District 10, whose members
manufacture pumps, meters, controls, vapor recovery equipment and filters.
He will succeed Eva Chambers, Veeder-Root, Simsbury, Connecticut.
Manufacturer District 12 - The new director representing District 12 is
Tim Weiss, Morrison Bros. Co., Dubuque, Iowa. He will succeed Brad
Baker, Husky Corporation, Pacific, Missouri. Members in District 12
manufacture nozzles, valves, fittings, tank coatings, gauges and secondary
containment systems.
Affiliate Division - Liz Concannon, Petroleum Card Services,
Minden, Nevada, has been elected to represent the Affiliate Division on the
PEI Board of Directors. She will succeed Brian Wiegert, Rounds &
Associates, Urbandale, Iowa. |

PENNSYLVANIA EXTENDS TWO UST PROGRAMS
Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett signed legislation June 27 that postpones
the sunset date (now June 30, 2017) for the Underground Storage Tank (UST)
Environmental Cleanup Program and UST Pollution Prevention Program. The
cleanup program authorizes the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental
Protection (DEP) to use money from the UST Indemnification Fund to clean up
sites contaminated by leaking USTs, typically when there is no financially
solvent responsible party. The cleanup program also allows the DEP to
provide grants of up to $4,000 to reimburse owners of USTs with a capacity
of 3,000 gallons or less for the cost of cleaning up heating oil discharges.
The pollution prevention program provides funding of up to $2,500 per tank
to individuals who have small USTs on their properties that need to be
pumped out, cleaned and closed.
PROMOTIONS AND APPOINTMENTS
Western Pump, Inc., headquartered in San Diego, California, has
appointed Ryan Rethmeier president of the company. He has held key positions
at Western Pump over the last 18 years, most recently as vice
president/general manager. Dennis Rethmeier moves up to CEO and will focus
his efforts on special projects until his retirement in February 2013. Joel
Smith has joined Western Pump as vice president, chief operating officer.
Smith was president of his own company for the past seven years. Before that
he worked for Northwest Airlines, the U.S. Army, and as White House
Communications Controller under President Reagan.
Emco Wheaton Retail Corporation, Wilson, North Carolina, has
appointed Petro Energy, Inc. as its manufacturer's representative.
Headquartered in Houston, Texas, Petro Energy will provide representation in
Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.

TRUCKS FROM DIESEL TO LNG: ECONOMIC SENSE?
The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) recently calculated the
incremental cost of converting a heavy truck from diesel to natural gas at
about $80,000. This means the investment pays off in roughly three years if
the truck is driven 100,000 miles per year, assuming prices of $4.00 per
gallon for diesel and $2.50 per gallon equivalent for liquefied natural gas
(LNG). But the cost of conversion and natural gas prices are currently
lower, providing an even greater incentive to make the switch. The EIA has
estimated that if sufficient refueling infrastructure were installed in the
United States, the annual sales of new heavy-duty natural gas vehicles could
increase from fewer than 1,000 in 2010 to 275,000 in 2035―or
about one-third of all new heavy trucks sold.
U.S. FUNDS NATURAL GAS VEHICLE RESEARCH
The federal government announced $30 million in funding awards last week for
13 projects seeking to develop more efficient and consumer-friendly
equipment for natural gas vehicles. Several of the awards will focus on the
development of more efficient natural gas tanks in vehicles, the agency
said. Most of the other funding awards are directed at projects that are
seeking to develop better compressors for in-home refueling units.
ADDITIONAL ALTERNATIVE FUEL BRIEFS
The Phantom Fuel Reform Act (H.R. 6047), introduced by Rep. Jeff Flake
(R-AZ), would tie the amount of cellulosic ethanol mandated in the nation's
fuel supply under the renewable fuel standard to actual industry production
rather than to estimates of projected volumes, as is required by the Clean
Air Act. If passed, the legislation would limit EPA's requirement for
cellulosic biofuel use.
A Phillips 66 branded station in Lawrence, Kansas, is the first in
the country to market E15 for model year 2001 and later vehicles. The
station is part of the Zarco 66 chain and is owned by Scott Zaremba.
Weld County's (Colorado) first CNG station opened last month in
Firestone. Three more are planned for the county before the end of summer in
Greeley, Fort Lupton and Kersey. The state currently has 15 CNG fueling
stations that are open to the public and 29 overall. Weld County has about
17,000 oil and gas wells, more than any other county in Colorado.
