A draft of PEI's newest publication Recommended Practices for the
Installation of Marina Fueling Systems (PEI/RP1000) is now available for
comment.
This publication provides concrete, authoritative guidance on how to deal
with the challenges of constructing safe, environmentally-protective marina
fueling facilities that will provide reliable and economical service for
many years. PEI/RP1000 offers recommendations for materials, designs and
installation procedures suitable for a wide variety of marine environments,
including fresh and salt water; and stable, tidal and fluctuating water
levels. Fixed, onshore underground and aboveground tanks are addressed.
The draft document and comment form are available at
www.pei.org/RP1000.
A paper copy of the draft will be mailed to all domestic PEI members this week.
PEI accepts comments to its draft recommended practices from anyone with an
interest in the subject. Written comments offering changes to the document
must be returned to PEI by September 30, 2009, to be considered by the PEI
Marina Fueling System Installation Committee. Comments also can be submitted
online.
API SEEKS COMMENTS ON STORING AND HANDLING ETHANOL BLENDS
API is seeking comments on the proposed revision to its publication on
storing and handling ethanol and gasoline-ethanol blends. The Recommended
Practice 1626, Storing and Handling Ethanol and Gasoline-Ethanol Blends
at Distribution Terminals and Filling Stations, Second Edition, covers
the following topics: material compatibility; phase separation; ethanol and
ethanol blend characteristics; distribution terminals; tank truck unloading;
and fire protection. This
final draft
version is available for comment by PEI members and interested parties
until August 31, 2009. There is no official comment form. Send all comments

ALGAE BIOFUELS GET POLITICAL BOOST
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is considering a plan that
would allow the national renewable fuels mandate to be met, at least in
part, by algae-based fuels. A bipartisan group of congressmen, led by Rep.
Brian Bilbray (R-CA), has also proposed legislation that would allow biofuels to meet requirements for cellulosic
fuels in the renewable fuels standard. The new attention in Washington comes
as the role of algae as an alternative to conventional corn-based ethanol
has gained momentum in the corporate community in recent months. |
