A general term describing equipment and procedures designed to contain spills resulting from tank overfills, failure at a pipe joint or fitting or dispenser [2] mishaps. 

Spill containment techniques include trays or troughs installed beneath dispensers, piping sumps, and spill containment manholes [3].
