Sludge [1]

The thick substance that tends to collect in the bottom of motor fuel tanks. It consists of residual oil, dirt, scale, and other foreign material that settles out of gasoline [2] and diesel  [3]fuel. Sludge must be removed and properly disposed of when tanks are taken out of service.
