Reciprocating Compressor [1]

A compressor is a device that mechanically forces a volume of air at ambient atmospheric pressure into a smaller volume, thus increasing its pressure.

A reciprocating compressor uses a piston moving inside a closely fitting cylinder, with appropriate inlet and outlet valves at the top of the cylinder, as the mechanism for compressing the air.
