Phase Separation [1]

The separation of gasoline [2] and alcohol in a storage tank [3], caused by the presence of water or by the addition of warm gasoline to a cold storage tank-particularly in humid coastal areas.

Many modern motor fuels consist of a mixture of gasoline and alcohol. Care must be exercised in the handling of some of these products to ensure that phase separation does not occur.
