Impervious Liner [1]

A flexible, liquid-proof, plastic or synthetic material used to line the walls and bottom of an underground storage tank [2] excavation or the diked [3] area of an aboveground storage tank installation, to provide a means of secondary containment [4] in event of a release or spill.

Because water and other liquids cannot move through the material, it is referred to as impervious.
