Downstream Operations [1]

A term used in the petroleum industry to refer to the sequence of operations that occur after crude oil [2] has been found and produced.

A refinery [3] is said to be downstream from the oil field; a terminal [4] is downstream from the refinery; a bulk plant [5] is downstream from a terminal; and a gasoline [6] station is downstream from a bulk plant or terminal.
