Cetane Number [1]

A number assigned to motor fuel to represent its properties of ignition. Pure cetane has been given a rating of 100. Diesel  [2]fuel is routinely tested for its cetane rating. If it has a low rating, additional cetane, along with other chemicals, can be blended into the fuel to bring it up to the desired rating.
