Asphaltic Coating [1]

Prior to the adoption of Environmental Protection Agency [2] regulations, a thick, protective coating was often applied to the exterior surface of steel underground storage tanks to help protect from corrosion. The principal element in the coating was asphalt. Asphaltic coatings are no longer applied.
