PEI Publishes Diesel Exhaust Fluid Document [1]

Submitted by jessica on January 22, 2010 - 15:14

The Petroleum Equipment Institute (PEI) has announced that the Recommended Practices for the Storage and Dispensing of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (PEI/RP1100) is now available for purchase.

The practices contained within the Recommended Practices are the consensus recommendations of the PEI DEF Committee. The committee is made up of representatives from service and installation contracting companies, equipment and DEF manufacturers and suppliers. RP1100 represents the first industry standard describing how to install DEF storage and dispensing equipment at motor-fuel dispensing facilities and repair and maintenance garages.

The Recommended Practice is being published in response to a planned national rollout of DEF dispensing infrastructure at travel centers and fleet refueling sites. Beginning with 2010 models, DEF will be required in diesel-powered trucks utilizing Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) to meet federal emissions standards. SCR is an emissions-reduction technology with the ability to deliver near-zero emission of nitrogen oxide, a smog-causing pollutant and greenhouse gas.

The single-copy price for RP1100 is $40 for PEI members or $95 for nonmembers. The Recommended Practices can be purchased by visiting www.pei.org/RP1100.

Other PEI recommended practices publications currently available include Installation of Underground Liquid Storage Systems (RP100); Installation of Aboveground Storage Systems (RP200); Installation and Testing of Vapor Recovery Systems at Vehicle Fueling Sites (RP300); Testing Electrical Continuity of Fuel-Dispensing Hanging Hardware (RP400); Inspection and Maintenance of Motor Fuel Dispensing Equipment (RP500); Overfill Prevention for Aboveground Storage Tanks (RP600); Design and Maintenance of Fluid-Distribution Systems (RP700); Installation of Bulk Storage Plants (RP800); Inspection and Maintenance of UST Systems (RP900) and the Installation of Marina Fueling Systems (RP1000).

Founded in 1951, PEI is comprised of more than 1,600 companies engaged in the manufacturing and distribution of equipment used in petroleum marketing and related operations. Members are located in 50 states and 81 countries. PEI is the international trade association for distributors, manufacturers and installers of equipment used in petroleum-marketing and liquid-handling operations. Users of the equipment include service station and convenience store owners, terminals, bulk plants and airport refueling operations. The Institute's headquarters are located in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
