TULSA, Oklahoma, May 21, 2019/Petroleum Equipment Institute/ -- Five outstanding students have won $1,000 Charles D. Kemp Scholarships for the 2019-2020 academic year, the Petroleum Equipment Institute (PEI) and PEI Foundation announced.

Scholarship recipients are: Jacob Fagerstrom, son of William Fagerstrom, of The Oscar W. Larson Co.; Alexander Wichmann, son of Kevin Wichmann, of McKinney Petroleum Equipment; Caleb Grothoff, son of Scott Grothoff, of NOV Fiberglass Systems; Kylie Rydjord, daughter of Andrew Neelis, of R.W. Mercer Co.; and Edward R. Kammerer, son of Edward J. Kammerer, of OPW Fueling Components.

“The PEI Foundation, association and I are proud to provide tomorrow’s leaders with scholarships to pursue their educations,” said Rick Long, executive vice president and general counsel of PEI. “The fueling industry needs more talented young people like Jacob, Alexander, Caleb, Kylie and Edward. The Kemp scholarships recognize deserving students who are dependents of full-time employees of PEI member companies in manufacturer, distributor, service and construction or affiliate divisions. Applicants must plan to enroll as entering full-time freshmen for the 2019-20 academic year at accredited four-year colleges or universities. Recipients were selected based on academic achievement, leadership, character, need and the applicants’ intents to contribute to the future of the fuel and fluid handling equipment industry. 

The scholarships are named in honor and memory of Charles D. Kemp, longtime president of the White Tucker Co. and 1972 president of PEI. Kemp was committed to the fuel and fluid handling equipment industry, exhibited exemplary character and was devoted to the betterment of his community. The scholarships encourage and support students who reflect Kemp’s values and character.

The board of governors of the PEI Foundation and a scholarship selection committee determine the number of annual Kemp scholarships. The awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, gender, disability or national origin.
