TULSA, Oklahoma, June 8, 2018/Petroleum Equipment Institute/ -- Five outstanding students have won the PEI Foundation’s Charles D. Kemp Scholarships for the 2018-2019 academic year, the Petroleum Equipment Institute announced.

Scholarship recipients are: Matthew Verran, son of Michael Verran, of Northwest Pump and Equipment; Hannah Farnham, employee of Beneficial Systems; Meghan Matas, daughter of Gregory Matas, of Shields, Harper & Co.; Grace Turner, daughter of Richard M. Turner, of Diamond Z Engineering; and Shelby Duke, daughter of Larry W. Duke, of The Southern Co. of NLR Inc.

“We think Mr. Kemp would be proud of these young people, and we’re proud to help our PEI families further their educations,” said Rick Long, executive vice president and general counsel of PEI. “We hope they’ll consider our industry a long-term career and exciting future.” 

Recipients are selected based on academic achievement, leadership, character, need and the applicant’s intent to contribute to the future of the fuel and fluid handling equipment industry.

The scholarships are named in honor and memory of Charles D. Kemp, longtime president of the White Tucker Co. and 1972 president of PEI. Kemp was fully committed to the fuel and fluid handling equipment industry, exhibited exemplary character and was devoted to the betterment of his community. The scholarship awards seek to encourage and support students who reflect Kemp’s values and character.

The program is administered by the board of governors of the PEI Foundation and a scholarship selection committee named by the board of governors.
