Illustrating its commitment to education and safety in the petroleum and liquid handling equipment industry, the Petroleum Equipment Institute has launched the PEI Learning Center, an interactive, safety-training website, created to promote a safer industry through education.
The web-based learning system features educational videos and programs produced by Coastal Training Technologies, a premier supplier of highly-effective, award-winning safety products and is available 24 hours per day at www.pei.org/safety. The PEI Learning Center requires no contract and allows students to review program material for 30 days prior to taking the final exam. Each student successfully completing a course is awarded a Certificate of Completion, which can be printed from any computer with printer access. Managers needing to train a small group can enroll and assign students, then monitor student progress.
Safety training topics available in the PEI Learning Center include bloodborne pathogens, first aid, chemical communication, confined spaces, construction, driver training, hazard communication, electrical safety, environmental safety, ergonomics, fall protection, fire and emergency, forklift and crane operation, hand tool and machine safety, hazardous materials, homeland security, lockout-tagout, maritime safety, personal protective equipment, process safety, respiratory protection, safety attitudes and supervisor training.
“As online education has become more viable and our members have begun to request safety options like this, we felt this was the right time to develop a tool like the PEI Learning Center,” said Robert N. Renkes, Executive Vice President of PEI. “We believe it will be useful in several capacities, most importantly in employee education. The PEI Learning Center will serve as a very powerful tool to inform and educate our industry, making our member's jobsites, and our industry in general, a safer place to work.”
“We are very excited about the launch of PEI Learning Center,” Renkes continued. “We feel the sharing of information and ideas contained within the Learning Center could revolutionize safety within our industry. We feel the PEI Learning Center could become one of the more valuable resources that PEI offers our industry.”
