The Petroleum Equipment Institute (PEI) has announced that the 2011 edition of Recommended Practices for Installation of Underground Liquid Storage Systems (PEI/RP100-11) is now available for purchase.

The revised document provides the most current information on sound engineering and construction practices with regard to the proper installation of underground liquid storage systems. The 2011 publication represents the eighth revision of the original 1986 document, and replaces and supersedes the 2005 edition, as significant changes have been made to text, figures and tables.

The all-new RP100 contains sections on excavating, backfilling, anchoring, piping, release detection, cathodic protection, secondary containment and other aspects of tank system installation. The three appendices contain formulas for calculating weight required to prevent tank floatout; procedures for calculating sacrificial anode requirements; and a current publication reference of other tank installation documents. The manual, which contains 31 line drawings, is completely indexed.

 “More than 50 percent of the wide-ranging comments were accepted in some manner,” said Robert Renkes, Executive Vice President of PEI. In addition to new sections on shear valves and manhole identification, extensive editorial revisions, all of the drawings were updated.”

Among the many revisions to the 42-page document are important changes in the following areas: water management; flow shut-off devices; vent restriction devices; secondary containment; transition sumps; groundwater monitoring; automatic line-lead detectors; piping layout and trenches; piping slope; and fuel compatibility.
