PEI OFFERS FREE SEPT. 13 WEBINAR ON ISOBUTANOL

TULSA, Oklahoma, Sept. 10, 2018/Petroleum Equipment Institute/ -- Petroleum Equipment Institute (PEI) members may register for a free, one-hour webinar that will explore isobutanol, the emerging vehicle fuel produced by Butamax and Gevo.

The webinar, “Isobutanol: A New Fuel in Commerce,” will be at 2 p.m. EDT Thursday, Sept. 13. Presenters are fuel researchers at two national labs: Kristi Moriarty, senior engineer at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL); and Mike Kass, senior research engineer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Moriarty and Kass will provide background on isobutanol and results of recent isobutanol refueling equipment compatibility tests. PEI members may provide live feedback to Moriarty and Kass during the webcast.

“This is a chance for PEI members to learn as much as they can about isobutanol — which is already for sale in the marketplace —before the PEI Convention at the NACS Show in Las Vegas,” said Rick Long, executive vice president and general counsel of PEI. “Mike and Kristi will be in Las Vegas to present ‘Fueling Infrastructure & Isobutanol Compatibility’ as a PEI 1-on-1 session, and I urge our members to register for Thursday’s webinar so they can get the most out of the PEI Convention next month and ask informed questions.”

Isobutanol could have several uses, according to Moriarty and Kass. Butamax and Gevo are focused on making a range of products from isobutanol, including on-road transportation fuel, jet fuel, solvents, coatings, plastics and fibers. Isobutanol is already a reality in the fuel and fluid handling equipment industry. For example, Buc-ee’s, a Texas-based C-store chain, began selling a 12.5 percent isobutanol blend in November 2016. In addition, Musket Corp., a division of Love’s Family of Companies, distributes isobutanol. And some marinas sell isobutanol blends. Moriarty and Kass will provide deeper regulatory and research information on isobutanol during the PEI webinar and 1-on-1 session.

Space is limited for the webinar, and pre-registration is required at https://bit.ly/2MhJ0BB. Registrants will receive confirmation emails with information about joining the webinar. An archive of the webinar will be available on the PEI website, www.pei.org.

The PEI 1-on-1 session on isobutanol featuring Moriarty and Kass will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The PEI Convention at the NACS Show will run Oct. 7-10. More information and registration are available at www.pei.org/show.
