TULSA, Oklahoma, July 1, 2020/Petroleum Equipment Institute/ -- Seven students won $1,000 Charles D. Kemp Scholarships to be used toward the 2020-2021 academic year, the Petroleum Equipment Institute (PEI) and PEI Foundation announced.

Scholarship recipients are: 

• Barron Hobbs, son of J. Barron Hobbs, White Tucker Co.
• Camden Abrams, son of Greg Abrams, Performance Ink Inc.
• Eva Rethmeier, daughter of Ryan and Erin Rethmeier, Western Pump Inc.
• Griffin Fill, son of Matthew Fill, Oscar W. Larson Co.
• Matthew Johnson, son of Robert Johnson, R.W. Mercer Co.
• Remi Masarik, daughter of Ronald Masarik, Whitemarsh Corp.
• Sutton Bills Stokes, son of Rhett Stokes, McCon Building & Petroleum Services Inc.

“The PEI Foundation, association and I applaud these members of the high school class of 2020,” said Rick Long, executive vice president and general counsel of PEI. “They've missed out on milestones many of us took for granted, and we hope these scholarships put smiles on their faces. We're proud of their accomplishments.”

The Kemp scholarships recognize deserving students who are dependents of full-time employees of PEI member companies in manufacturer, distributor, service and construction or affiliate divisions. Applicants must plan to enroll as entering full-time freshmen for the 2020-21 academic year at accredited four-year colleges or universities. Recipients were selected based on academic achievement, leadership, character, need and the applicants’ intents to contribute to the future of the fuel and fluid handling equipment industry. 

The scholarships are named in honor and memory of Charles D. Kemp, longtime president of the White Tucker Co. and 1972 president of PEI. Kemp was committed to the fuel and fluid handling equipment industry, exhibited exemplary character and was devoted to the betterment of his community. The scholarships encourage and support students who reflect Kemp’s values and character.

The board of governors of the PEI Foundation and a scholarship selection committee determine the number of annual Kemp scholarships. The awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, gender, disability or national origin.
