TULSA, Oklahoma, Dec. 18, 2019/Petroleum Equipment Institute/ -- High school seniors who are dependents of employees at PEI member companies are eligible to apply for the PEI Foundation’s $1,000 Charles D. Kemp Scholarships for the 2020-21 academic year. The deadline to apply is 11:59 p.m. March 31, 2020.
“Tell everyone at your company who has a college-bound high school senior that the PEI Foundation has free money,” said Rick Long, executive vice president and general counsel at PEI. “Our industry needs more smart, determined young people, and these scholarships are one way PEI hopes to attract them. We have flyers you can print for your break rooms and announcement boards or you can include the digital file in emails.”
The scholarships recognize deserving students who are dependents of full-time employees of PEI member companies in manufacturer, distributor, service and construction or affiliate divisions. Applicants must plan to enroll as entering full-time freshmen for the 2020-21 academic year at accredited four-year colleges or universities. Recipients will be selected based on academic achievement, leadership, character, need and the applicants’ intents to contribute to the future of the fuel and fluid handling equipment industry.
The scholarships are named in honor and memory of Charles D. Kemp, longtime president of the White Tucker Co. and 1972 president of PEI. Kemp was committed to the fuel and fluid handling equipment industry, exhibited exemplary character and was devoted to the betterment of his community. The scholarships encourage and support students who reflect Kemp’s values and character.
The board of governors of the PEI Foundation and a scholarship selection committee will determine the number of Kemp scholarships. The annual awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, gender, disability or national origin.
